Without the theatrics.

“A woman whose daughter had an evil spirit in her heard that he was there. So she quickly came to Jesus and fell at his feet. She was Greek, born in Phoenicia, in Syria. She begged Jesus to force the demon out of her daughter. Jesus told the woman, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and give it to the dogs. First let the children eat all they want.” But she answered, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table can eat the children’s crumbs.” Then Jesus said, “Because of your answer, you may go. The demon has left your daughter.” The woman went home and found her daughter lying in bed; the demon was gone.” – Mark 7:25-30

We cast 21 demons out of a young man.

I was holding his arms down at one point as he attempted to strike Toby. He broke free. I lifted my hand to pray and his hand pinned itself to the floor. It remained there until the boy said, “Jesus is Lord, Jesus is my Lord.” He was free.

Jaclyn and I were in Oahu, Hawaii, on vacation. As we departed our hotel lobby, a demon possessed woman was yelling obscenities about Jesus. I lifted my hand to point at her and was going to pray she stop. She saw us. Her eyes grew terrified. Her jaw clenched shut as her teeth clicked together. We heard the sound from 20 feet away.

We walked to the market.

When we returned, she remained there, a statue of silent fear.

I’m still not certain why we weren’t asked to pray them out but I was certain we had obeyed for the moment and so had they.

“This is how you can know God’s Spirit: Every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ came to earth as a human is from God. And every spirit who refuses to say this about Jesus is not from God. It is the spirit of the enemy of Christ, which you have heard is coming, and now he is already in the world.

My dear children, you belong to God and have defeated them; because God’s Spirit, who is in you, is greater than the devil, who is in the world.” – 1 John 4:2-4
