I placed a filter in the coffee maker before I began making Jaclyn’s coffee.
While I ground the beans, one got away. I picked it up, put it in my mouth, sucked on it a bit, and crunched it.
As I sat down to write this, seeing my reflection in the screen, I was smiling and I noticed there was a small piece of that crunched bean stuck between my teeth.
Imagine if I served her a cup of coffee without having first inserted a filter in the coffee maker.
“So I tell you: Live by following the Spirit. Then you will not do what your sinful selves want.” – Galatians 5:16 (Verses 16-26 are amazing!)
We are only 2/3rds of ourselves when we do not acknowledge our spirit.
“But test everything. Keep what is good, and stay away from everything that is evil.
Now may God himself, the God of peace, make you pure, belonging only to him. May your whole self–spirit, soul, and body–be kept safe and without fault when our Lord Jesus Christ comes.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:21-23
The water and the flavor of the coffee are great only with the filter.
“How can a young person live a pure life? By obeying your word.
With all my heart I try to obey you. Don’t let me break your commands.
I have taken your words to heart so I would not sin against you.” – Psalms 119:9-11
“The time is coming when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, and that time is here already. You see, the Father too is actively seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” – John 4:23-24
“Brothers and sisters, think about the things that are good and worthy of praise. Think about the things that are true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected.” – Philippians 4:8
Without the filter, coffee is bitter and gritty.
So am I when I don’t acknowledge and apply my own ‘spirit and truth’.
