Les, my son, and I were originally talking about never being afraid that God would not provide a place, a home, a sense of stability as we trusted in Him.
He had and always would come through.
Then it hit me. I had always had a sense of ‘homelessness.’ There had always been this sense of having my face pressed against the pet store window longing for the ‘puppy’ of the perfect home and family.
It took me some time to determine there was nothing wrong with that.
“I have given them your teaching. And the world has hated them, because they don’t belong to the world, just as I don’t belong to the world. I am not asking you to take them out of the world but to keep them safe from the Evil One. They don’t belong to the world, just as I don’t belong to the world.” – John 17:14
Jesus said this about us, just in case you ever get that ‘puppy’ feeling, remember this:
“But our homeland is in heaven, and we are waiting for our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, to come from heaven. By his power to rule all things, he will change our humble bodies and make them like his own glorious body.” – Philippians 3:20, 21
“Now you who are not Jewish are not foreigners or strangers any longer, but are citizens together with God’s holy people. You belong to God’s family.” – Ephesians 2:19
“All these great people died in faith. They did not get the things that God promised his people, but they saw them coming far in the future and were glad. They said they were like visitors and strangers on earth. When people say such things, they show they are looking for a country that will be their own. If they had been thinking about the country they had left, they could have gone back. But they were waiting for a better country–a heavenly country. So God is not ashamed to be called their God, because he has prepared a city for them.” – Hebrews 11:13-14
“And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Now God’s presence is with people, and he will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them and will be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death, sadness, crying, or pain, because all the old ways are gone.” – Revelation 21:3
Now THAT’s home!
There, we will never be homeless.
