As much as I appreciate the newer translations of the Word making things so much clearer, I am especially grateful for those moments when, after spending time just being quiet with the Lord, staring into the black of my eyelids saying, “I’m listening…”, that the Word(s) acquire a voice and I listen as I read in His presence.
“But when the Spirit of truth comes, he will lead you into all truth. He will not speak his own words, but he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is to come.
The Spirit of truth will bring glory to me, because he will take what I have to say and tell it to you.” – John 16:13-14
When I was a child, I heard Psalm 145 like this:
I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever.
Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.
Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.
The word ‘fathom’ came off the page and I wondered at what depth of my time with God might I comprehend some aspect of God I had not previously encountered. So much of who God is lies on and just beneath the surface for us to peruse but, so much more there is to discover when we allow the Spirit to draw us deeper.
