Reading Job this morning as part of the devotional in “Grace for the Moment” by Max Lucado
His description of a leviathan reminded me of Revelation 9 and the description John, a first century writer, gave of a helicopter.
When I was fifteen and going to Olympic View Assembly of God over in Silverdale, we had a Sunday School teacher who was fascinated with prophecy. She would read to us from Matthew, Revelation, Daniel, Ezekiel and other key verses. As she was reading Revelation 9, I looked up from my reading and asked her if he was attempting to describe a helicopter from his first century perspective.
She paused in her reading, saying she’d never considered that.
A number of us who were artistically inclined sketched out his description with a helicopter in mind. It was better than plausible.
“In the same way, when you see all these things happening, you will know that the time is near, ready to come. I tell you the truth, all these things will happen while the people of this time are still living.” – Matthew 24:33-34
If we were the first generation to actually SEE these verses as more than just allegorical, the first generation to associate ‘locusts’ with Sikorsky’s Black Hawks (a fairly new chopper when I was 15), might we also be the generation that sees the rest come to pass?
There have been generations before ours that have seen a lot of Matthew 24 take place but not all of it. That may be so of mine, too, but we are that much closer aren’t we?
