Saw Mulder this morning! Okay, so it was an individual that looked just like him, well 20 years ago.
X-Files was a crazy show I used to watch. The tag line was, “The Truth is Out There”
Had a conversation with an individual who asked me how you can know if a teacher or book is really teaching the truth.
When I replied, “ By comparing it to God’s Word, the Bible, they looked at me as if I was out there.
I miss Sunday School.
Having had the benefit of interacting with Sunday School teachers who somehow taught us the Word in a way we could not read just one chapter and be satisfied has seriously solidified my walk with God.
The Truth, Jesus, is in there, in His Word.
Saying you love Jesus and not reading His Word is like saying you love some superstar that you really don’t know.
James 4 contains key principles to REALLY knowing God through the Truth of His Word.
“Do you think the Scripture means nothing that says, “The Spirit that God made to live in us wants us for himself alone”? But God gives us even more grace, as the Scripture says, “God is against the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.” (Proverbs 3:34) So give yourselves completely to God. Stand against the devil, and the devil will run from you. Come near to God, and God will come near to you. You sinners, clean sin out of your lives. You who are trying to follow God and the world at the same time, make your thinking pure.” – James 4:5-8
“Completely to God”
“Against the Devil”
“Near to God”
“Make your thinking pure”
Your thinking?
In a real relationship, not one with a ‘superstar’, you know the details of the one you are closest to.
Did you ever receive a love note from someone and just put it in your pocket, on your dresser, or on your night stand and not read it?
Why?
Because you were still in that stage of getting to know them and you clung to their every word as it revealed more and more about them, you followed them on Instagram and Facebook and kept your phone close.
Do you do everything in that relationship with your heart, though?
Well, sometimes we do don’t we? How many of you have THOSE stories?
So, what do you do if you want that relationship to work? You invest your thinking, too, right?
You consider everything about your relationship, you get to really know each other and then, and this is important, if someone comes along and tells you something about your love that doesn’t line up with what you know, you get a check in heart, in your spirit, and in your thinking and you search it out to see if it lines up with what you know.
What do you do when it does? You scoop it up, right? Just one more thing you’ve learned about your love.
And if it doesn’t?
What do you do and how do you feel when someone lies to you about your love?
How do you know they are lying?
You read the notes, right? You spent time with your love, getting to know them.
Is the Truth only ‘out there?’
Please, get it ‘in there.’
