“If the only way to find out about God was through reason, then smarter people would have the inside track and the less intelligent would be shut out. Getting into heaven would be like getting into Harvard.” – “What’s So Great About Christianity?” by Dinesh D’Souza.
I know we’ve all met people who’d like us to think we need a certain kind of education to make a difference. It might be argued that a certain kind of education might benefit those witnessing to those with the same education.
“Do not let anyone treat you as if you are unimportant because you are young. Instead, be an example to the believers with your words, your actions, your love, your faith, and your pure life. Until I come, continue to read the Scriptures to the people, strengthen them, and teach them. Use the gift you have, which was given to you through prophecy when the group of elders laid their hands on you. Continue to do those things; give your life to doing them so your progress may be seen by everyone. Be careful in your life and in your teaching. If you continue to live and teach rightly, you will save both yourself and those who listen to you.” – 1 Timothy 4:12-16
Reminds me of a line from the movie “Captain America: The First Avenger”
“This is why you were chosen. Because the strong man who has known power all his life, may lose respect for that power, but a weak man knows the value of strength, and knows… compassion.”
Be an example to the believers with…
- your words,
- your actions,
- your love,
- your faith, and
- your pure life.
My most memorable teachers didn’t show me their liturgies, they showed me their lives.
