An old friend overheard another state, “If it’s meant to be, it will happen.”
He asked me what I thought of that statement.
“I don’t believe it.”, I said.
“I was meant to be living in a perfect world with a perfect mind, body and spirit. I was meant to know unconditional love. I was meant to be timelessly meandering the shores of the perfect beach, gazing deep into space through perfect eyes, enveloped in the arms of the One whose heartbeat was the cadence of my own, and I was meant to breathe forever deep sighs of contentment.
THAT’s what was meant to be.
Instead, I live what was never meant to be.
A heart meant to love experiences rejection.
A mind meant to create and appreciate fades.
A body meant to live forever atrophies.
Oh, and none of that just happened. I actually chose it. I changed what was ‘meant to be.’
Of all the trees growing, bountifully blooming, producing such opulent fruit beyond my senses, satisfying, I chose the one tree that knew.
Knowing ‘good’ and its absence, ‘evil,’ was never meant to be known alone, especially forever.
Another tree, so near, so dear, whose fruit I only saw as I looked back over my shoulder, was kept from me so I would not remain this way forever.
That was also never ‘meant to be’ but it had to happen.
John 3:17 states “God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world guilty, but to save the world through him.”
I was never meant to be guilty.
God didn’t want that to happen nor did He want it to stay that way.
God provided another tree, the Cross, and Jesus, to bring back what was meant to be.
Now, it took me longer than that second to tell you why I don’t believe it and if I did believe it, that would concern me.
Jesus told a man beside him on a cross, a man that was meant to die, “Today, you will be with me in paradise.”
What’s meant to be doesn’t always happen and what happens isn’t always what’s meant to be.
You can change, today, what was never meant to be. Will you?
