It’s like standing on the shore here, at Orange Beach, with my bare toes pressing into the sand allowing the edge of the tide to rise over them, the salty foamy edge fills the depressions I’ve made as I stand still.
He fills me as I stand still.
“Be still and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
Still…
I remember Max, when he was a baby, wriggling and writhing about, making little grunting sounds of frustration, as I finished reading devos.
I see his reason.
His ‘bink,’ (our nickname for his pacifier) is just beyond his reach over the formidable rise of coiled sheet and blanket.
His attempts to climb the mass result in its giving way to a tangled mess enveloping him. He loses sight of his precious bink, rolls over on his back, whimpers a bit and looks over at me.
He smiles…
Yeah, THAT smile.
When I finally get to that place where I realize my very limited bio-mechanical efforts will not take me over the rise of my next challenge, I give up my own way of doing things, and breath a deep sigh of frustration that melts into a sigh of resignation and then one of relief as I turn, see God, and smile.
I ‘rescue’ Max’s bink, let him take it from my hand and he smiles. He is content once more, closes his eyes, and sleeps.
I look to my heavenly Dad as I get ready to attempt the coiled mass of my day.
I’m content.
